Gate 52 - Keeping Still (Mountain) - The Gate Of Stillness

Temporary and self-imposed inaction for the benefit of assessment

We have the 52 gate in the root, reaching towards the sacral gate 9 - the gate of focus. In gate 52, we find the ability to concentrate and sit still over extended periods - if this energy is used on the right things. A collective and logical energy that might be enjoyed with step-by-step processes.

It's important that you find something you identify with, something you love, something you find worthwhile to move you forward. When you find that thing, this gate will help you concentrate on doing just that over longer periods.

Without gate 9, it can be hard to find what to focus this energy on. But even without it, there is guidance and wisdom in you, getting still and silent with yourself. Allowing patience before action, making sure your strategy and authority is in on it. That way, you will find it easier to focus, even without gate 9.

I don't have anyone in my life with this gate in a defined root, so I only see it in action from time to time in a close relative, so my thoughts on this gate are solely based on theory.

This gate is not about having a physical outlet. Ironically, the pressure that builds up like a pressure cooker is released by sitting still. There is time for action, and there's time for stillness and reflection. This timing is set in your root. Even though the pressure to evolve naturally comes from the root - you have the ability to be the mountain, the eye of the storm. The steady, still person who can also create calmness for others.

However, stillness does not always equal focus. You could be still and watch tv all day long, and that might not be something you identify with and find worthwhile.

This is where radical honesty for yourself comes in; if you are a tv-show reviewer, this is most likely precisely how you should spend your time. But if not, was that the thing your authority moved you towards? Perhaps. I don't have any answers; I just ask the questions.

At the end of the day, you must be honest about how you use this energy. How you are honoring it or not.

But remember, this is coming from a pulsing root. The energy will not always be "on." You won't be able to sit down and concentrate "forever." It's all about timing and finding clarity through being still.

Besides the obvious lessons of grounding to find clarity and silence to move forward, there is an ironic "idle hands do in fact do good deeds" ring to this gate. In your idleness (as in spending time doing nothing), you can let go of the restlessness of jumping to the next without concentrated focus.

As I earlier wrote, I don't have anyone with this gate in a defined root in my life, but I do have a person who has this in an undefined root. This person just spent the year writing up their bachelor assignment, and I asked them, "do you focus better when at home or when you are at a library or something?" They replied, "I think I focus best when I am with others, wherever that is."

This just points to the inconsistency of the undefined root. I am sure this person connects to a defined root when with others, and in that way, can access this trait of sitting still.

My husband was so proud just a few days ago, "I must have picked great movies today cause you could barely move from the sofa!" I was a bit shocked cause that is so NOT me. I move, fiddle, I'm usually all over the place. But that night, I was still and focused.

So I checked the transits, something I don't often do at this point of my experiment. And there it was, Gate 52 in transit, and I have the hanging gate 9 in an undefined sacral, so that night, I had the full Channel of Concentration thanks to the transits.

I was relieved I could tell my husband he usually picks excellent movies, and this incident was just a part of the programming. I think part of him was sad that me sitting still had nothing to do with his choice of movies cause I think he was hoping this could become a new thing for me. Sitting still. Ha, no. But it was fun to experience it for a while.

The key with this gate is, before you do - pause. Be still and silent so that you can later concentrate.

So don't just do something; sit there.
